What the heck is Sharepoint?
Microsoft's technology for colaborating over the web is technically called Windows
Sharepoint Services (WSS). It is a fabulously easy way to share
information securely with employees, members or partners. NO
PROGRAMMING IS REQUIRED to create document libraries,
contact lists, task lists, event lists, schedules, etc. You can create any kind
of list you like, and determine who has access to it.(None, Read,
Contribute, Administer). Alerts can be set up to email you whenver a new
item is posted, or an existing item is edited. We use Sharepoint internally to
track license usage, record software development project requirements and
deliverabless, and maintain network administration client
information. If the built-in functionality is not enough there
are "WebParts" that can be purchased from 3rd parties and we can develop
custom Webparts for you to do various things. An example would be to
display book titles from the Amazon Web Service( yeah- we did that
already) or news from an RSS feed. You are limited only by your
imagination. All that is required is an Internet connection and IE 5.5 or
better.

Who Uses Sharepoint?
WSS is ideal for small to medium size workgroups that are geographically
distributed. It is far superior to using email to collaborate - especially on
documents. The Master copy is on the site and can be edited in place or
downloaded/edited/uploaded.
